Tiptoi

“play smart”

TIP, PLAY & LEARN

The Tiptoi pen is a toy for children made by Ravensburger. This audio-enabled pen brings books and games to life. When children tap on pictures in the book with the pen, texts, sounds, and music are activated. Children can independently and interactively immerse themselves in their own world.

INFO

The task in this project was to improve the existing packaging of the toy and reduce unnecessary materials. The conventional packaging is unnecessarily large, predominantly made of plastic, and contains numerous advertising brochures.

SOLUTION

More than just packaging: The new design offers children the opportunity to be creative and try out the pen before using the book. Once the packaging is no longer needed, the lid and base can be repurposed into a book holder. The animal figures on the packaging can be punched out to create small figurines. When tapping on the objects with the pen, corresponding sounds such as animal noises are activated. To save paper, a QR code has been placed on the packaging. By scanning this code, users are directed to the Tiptoi Manager, which explains how to set up the pen, including game instructions and brochures.

NEW DESIGN

“Unleash your creativity.

Fun starts with our new packaging!”

For the basic form of my packaging, I opted for a hexagonal cylinder. The hexagonal shape allowed me to achieve the smooth surfaces needed for my concept.

The concept of Tiptoi revolves around using the pen to tap on an image or object, triggering an audio explanation or story. I aimed to follow this idea. By removing the base and the lid, you have a flat surface. Children can then punch out and assemble the figures. The remaining cardboard scraps can be recycled. The figures are white, allowing children to paint them themselves. This, in turn, promotes their creativity, which is one of the goals of Tiptoi. To facilitate punching out, the figures on the cardboard are perforated. I also incorporated Tiptoi's brand colors into my packaging: orange and white.
